Shaping the Shank with Boolean Difference

Use the Boolean Difference command to cut a perfect seat for the cabochon in the shank.

Boolean Difference

In the Solid tab, select Boolean Difference.

• Select the shank, press Enter, then select the offset solid, and press Enter again.

Check Shank Fit

• Use Hide to conceal the gem and examine the seat created in the shank.

• Use Show to bring the cabochon back.

In this lesson, we’ll use Boolean Difference to carve out the area for the cabochon to sit in, making sure it has a precise fit within the shank.
