Organizing by layers

Layers are a way of organizing objects for manipulation and review. When objects are on a layer, we can disable them all at once, change the color and select them all with a single selection.

We will start from a base model to which we will apply each of the previous steps, in order to create a quality render for publication on Social Networks.

1. Create a new layer

2. Create a sublayer

3. Delete layers

4. Move selected layers up or down.

5. Move a parent layer up: Move the selected layer one level up in the layer tree structure.

6. Filters: When a model has a large number of layers, the layer list can be difficult to manage. Layer filters allow you to adjust the visibility of layers in the panel.

There are several ways to name layers, we can use the menu right click → rename, or simply select the layer and click on the name or press F2. We should keep in mind that layer names of the same level must be unique.

Layers Panel

The layers panel provides tools to manage the layers of the model. From left to right, we have these options:

1. ✔ Active layer

2. 💡The layer is visible, and you can see objects in this layer. If disabled, by clicking on the light bulb, the layer is not visible, and you cannot see objects in this layer.

3. 🔒Yellow indicates that the layer is visible and objects can be edited on that layer; gray indicates that the layer is visible, but objects on that layer cannot be edited.

4. ☐ Default color of the objects on this layer; by clicking on the icon, we can select a color for the layer.

5. 〇 Indicates the material assigned to the layer, including color and properties used for rendering.

Once we are familiar with the Layers panel, we will see how to assign objects to the created layers. To assign an element, just click on it; once selected, right-click on the layer created and select change object layer.
