Gems On Curve is a versatile tool designed for distributing gemstones along a selected curve with precision and flexibility. This command is particularly useful for creating intricate designs where gems follow specific paths, such as on rings, bracelets, or other curved surfaces.
How It Works:
Once activated, the Gems On Curve command provides two primary panels: the Selection Panel and the Parameters Panel, offering users control over both the placement and characteristics of the gems.
Selection Panel:
Curve Selection: Begin by selecting the curve on which the gems will be distributed. This can be any open or closed curve within the design.
Orientation Object (Optional): Optionally, select an object to which the gems will be oriented. This allows you to align the gems with the surface or geometry, ensuring proper placement on complex designs.
Parameters Panel:
This panel provides multiple customization options to define the characteristics of the gemstones and their distribution along the curve.
Gem Cut: Select the desired gemstone shape (e.g., round, princess, oval) from the available options.
Gem Material: Choose the material for the gemstones, such as diamond, sapphire, or other precious stones.
Gem Size: Adjust the size of the gems to match your design requirements.
Distance Between Gems: Set the spacing between each gemstone for precise distribution along the curve.
Rotation Angle: If necessary, rotate the gems at specific angles to match the design aesthetic.
Z-Axis Movement: Fine-tune the vertical position of each gemstone by moving them along the Z-axis.
Alignment: Control the alignment of the gems by choosing between the Table (aligning from the top flat surface of the gem) or the Girdle (aligning from the widest point of the gem).
Starting Point: Specify whether the gems should be distributed from the Center or from the Boundary of the curve:
Center: When selected, the first and last gem are placed from their center at the curve’s ends, distributing the rest evenly in between. This is ideal for symmetrical placement.
Boundary: The first and last gem are entirely inside the curve’s length, ensuring all gems are within the bounds of the curve. This option is particularly useful for open curves, providing greater control over gem placement.
Goldsmith Tip : It can be very effective to adjust the control points of the curve you’re using to distribute the gemstones. After making adjustments, reselect the curve in the selection panel. This approach allows you to dynamically refine the curve, leading to more precise placement of the gemstones.
Once you confirm your changes, all the stones you have generated will be listed on the Outliner toolbar.
